Lt. Colonel H. Vance Huston Obituary

Lt. Colonel H. Vance Huston, 85, of Greenup KY went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 1, 2018.

Vance was born on January 30, 1933 in Pasadena, California to the late Harold and Mildred Huston.

He graduated from Pasadena College in 1953 with a BA degree and a Master’s degree in Education from Cal Poly State University. He served in the United States Marine Corps for 23 years. He was a pilot, flying both C-130’s and Helicopters. He did tours of duty in Okinawa, Vietnam and the Philippines. He was a member of the Presidential Helicopter Squadron, HMX-1, flying Marine One for Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson.

After retiring from active duty he accepted the JROTC Instructor position at Greenup County High School where he served until 1988. While serving as JROTC instructor he helped marshal the community to build the building to house the program, which still stands today. Since his retirement in 1988 he has been very involved in the community and Christian ministry including, Meals-on-Wheels, Prison Ministry at the Federal Penitentiary in Summit, Leading Bible Studies in Greenup County Detention Center, and Gideon’s International. Vance loved his church family at Greenup County Methodist Church and served there in various capacities for over 40 years.

Colonel Huston is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ella Mae (Hartzler) Huston, sister Elaine (John) Miller of Phoenix and brother Robert Huston, of Chattanooga: 5 children; Vince (Gloria) Huston, Connie (Ridge) Orr, Victor, Cheryl (Tim) Colussy, Val (Juliana) Huston: 8 grandchildren; Elizabeth (Huston) Mast, Matt Colussy, Brittany Huston, Megan Colussy, Dan Colussy, Sabrina (Huston) Passaretti, Jessica Huston, Jacob Huston: and two great-grand children: Lucia Colussy and Elizabeth’s soon to be delivered baby.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Greenup First United Methodist Church by Rev. Patricia Hoeksema.

Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery NE.

Visitation will be 4:00 till 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the church.
