Bessie Lee Madden 87 of Lloyd KY went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born on Tick Ridge in Greenup County Kentucky on September 28, 1933, a daughter of the late Commie & Melvina Horsley Lee.

She was a longtime member of the Antioch Christian Church in Greenup where she served as Sunday School teacher and treasure for many years. She worked as a Greenup County Deputy Clerk and retired from Ashland Oil, Inc. where she was the payroll clerk. She was a commissioned Kentucky Colonel.

Bessie was an avid reader and loved to go to the beach. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery and keeping up with her extended family on Facebook. She was known for her one-of-a-kind Red Velvet Cakes. She doted on her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was affectionally referred to as Granny by those who knew her best, friends and family alike. She stayed busy in recent years as a volunteer at Kings Daughters Ohio. But her heart and passion were in her work at Greenup Meals on Wheels, where she volunteered and served on the board. Her potato and Waldorf salad were favorites of the clients she served.

She was preceded in death along with her parents by a son, William Ralph Madden; sisters, Gladys Jackson and her husband Raymond, Violet Carter and her husband Bob, Evelyn Stuckey and her husband Ray and Rosetta Ater and her husband Floyd and two brothers, Charles Lee, Bernard Lee and his wife Betty and Harley Lee.

She is survived by her husband Herman Richard Madden; a daughter, Vickie Blair and her husband Arthur, a son, Alan Madden and his wife Markie and a daughter in law, Connie Moore Madden all of Lloyd; two brothers, Marvin Lee and his wife Debbie, Jerry Lee and his wife Annie and a sister in law, Celia Lee all of Frankfort OH and two special sister in laws, Eldean Madden of Lloyd and Ruby Imel of Greenup; six grandchildren, Sara Gullett and her husband Daniel, Jessica Lewis and her husband Jeff, Cassie Blair; James Madden and his wife Paige; Jordan Madden and his wife Hannah all of Lloyd and Katie Barrick and her husband Andy of Tralee Ireland; eight great grandchildren, Eli Lewis, Jackson Gullett, Gage Gullett, Landry Lewis, Connor Fraley, Evelyn Barrick, Belle Madden and Oliver Barrick along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, September 24, 2021, at the Lloyd Church of the Nazarene Community Building by Brothers Kail Ruffner and Ken Martin.

Burial will follow in the Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd KY.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM till the time of the service on Friday.    

In lieu of flowers it is requested donations be made to Greenup Meals on Wheels P.O. Box 382 Greenup KY 41144 or the Antioch Christian Church 2200 Speeden’s Crossing Greenup KY 41144.

It is requested that COVID protocol be followed by always wearing mask and social distancing while attending the services.
