1936 – 2026

Carl Lewis Smith, 90, of South Shore, went to be with the Lord at his home on July 28, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Carl was born on March 26, 1936, on Big Leatherwood in Greenup County Ky. to Morris & Grace Green Smith.

Carl and the love of his life of 67 years, Darlene, were members of the Brushart Church on Big Leatherwood for many years where he served as a Deacon. They attended Grace Independent Baptist church in Greenup, Ky.

Carl retired from CSX railroad in Russel Ky. All who knew Carl knew that he loved God, family and horses in that order. Most weekends you could find him and Darlene with the kids at horse shows around the area. Later in life he loved keeping the yard mowed and plowing the garden with his mule “Lucy”. Speaking of Lucy, I’m sure many remember dad, mom, and Lucy pulling the wagon at Old Fashion Days parade, the Greenup County Fair and South Shore Quilt Days parade where he won many blue ribbons that he was so proud of.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Ronnie Smith and his wife Glenna of Mt. Sterling, Ky. Donnie Smith and his wife Amy of South Portsmouth, Ky and Carla Brown and her husband Anthony of South Shore, Ky; three grandchildren Courtny Sigler and her husband Scott, Sam Smith and Noah Brown; two great grandchildren, Izaiah and Zander Sigler along with a host of extended family and friends.

Carl was preceded in death along with his parents by a daughter Connie Joyce Smith; five sisters Hazel Musser, Elizabeth Baker, Ethel Wolfe, Minnie Wolfe and Lousie Bradley and two brothers MJ Smith and Jack Smith.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup Ky by brother Charlie Green.

Burial is to follow at Horsley Cemetery in Carter County Ky.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM till time of service on Thursday.

Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup, Ky. has been entrusted with the arrangements.
