Catherine McReynolds Obituary

Cathy McReynolds

1951 ~ 2026

Catherine Lynn McReynolds, age 74, of Yuba City, California, formerly of Greenup, Kentucky, went home to be with her Heavenly father on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

Cathy was born on December 24, 1951, in Ashland KY, the proud daughter of Audrey Dale and Melvin Carl Leonhart.

Cathy was a 1969 graduate of McKell High School. She had a caregiver heart, but it took her until later in life to go back to school due to working and raising a family. Her family was very proud when she graduated from Ashland Community College in 1989 with her associate's degree in nursing. She immediately began working at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital on the Oncology floor where she remained for over 20 years.

She loved taking care of cancer patients and was so kind and compassionate with them. She was thought of very fondly by her friends and coworkers, and her work ethic was stellar. Her patients were her top priority, and she made sure they received excellent care under her watch. She received great joy from caring for her patients no matter how hard it was and was also a great comfort to their family members. She also tackled the amazing task of going back to school while working full-time.

She graduated with her bachelor's degree in nursing from Shawnee State University along with fellow nursing friends. She sadly had to end her nursing career way too early due to health issues and retired from Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in 2004. After retirement she continued caring for people in their homes from time to time.

Cathy was a loving mother and wife and enjoyed spending time with family. Countless hours were spent on the banks of ponds or lakes fishing with her husband Jim and kids or grandkids. A lot of time was also spent with family at Memes in the pool or earlier years in Shongelo Lake in Mississippi when on vacation to see family in Jackson. She also enjoyed family vacations to Mammoth Caves, and family camping trips. In the 90’s, Cathy and her sister Connie along with two daughters Becky and Mary Sue, became certified in Scuba Diving. They enjoyed trips to Crystal River Florida to dive with the Manatees and amazing trips to Cozumel, Mexico to dive where the water and sea life is gorgeous.

She also loved playing Bingo. She had several close Bingo buddies over the years, and they developed into great friendships. Cathy loved to quilt and crochet. She made many crocheted blankets and quilts for family and friends over the years. Over the past few years, although her health was failing, she was able to enjoy family trips to the redwoods, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, and Yosemite National Park.

Cathy is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Jim McReynolds; her daughters Rebecca (Mark) Adkins, Roberta Hulett, Mary Sue McReynolds, Audra McReynolds; and her cherished grandchildren Steven (Allyson) Hulett, Kaitlyn Wynn, William Hulett, Savannah Grady, Jacob and Emily McReynolds whom she helped raise as her own, and Brayln Michael Griffith. Great grandchildren Lyla Grace and Ella Faith Wynn, and Casey and Sam Hulett. She is also survived by her siblings Mary Blanche Leonhart, Charlotte Ann Leonhart, Melvin Carl (Debbie) Leonhart Jr., and Mike (Vickie) Leonhart. Special nephew Michael Douglas (Stephanie) Leonhart. Special cousins Paula (Gene) White and Keith (Princess) Williamson. Special Brother-in-law Richard Dickison. Brother-in-law Chop (Jane) McReynolds along with their sons David and Danny McReynolds. Sister-in-law Carol McReynolds along with her children Bryan McReynolds, Sherry Risner, and Jessica Johnson. Cathy was preceded in death by her loving parents Audrey Dale and Melvin Carl Leonhart, sister Connie Sue (Leonhart) Dickison, nephew Michael Brock Leonhart, and precious son James (Jamie) Robert McReynolds.

It was Cathy's wish to not have a formal service. She will be cremated and then have her ashes spread over the water at a beautiful spot somewhere per her request.

The family will have a graveside memorial service at their cemetery in Greenup at a later date and time.
