Charles Ledger
1939 ~ 2025
Charles Thomas Ledger 86, of Greenup KY went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland KY.
He was born in Martins Ferry Ohio on October 13, 1939, a son of the late Clarence Charles & Carmella Devecchis Ledger.
He was a member of the Greenup First United Methodist Church and the V.F.W. Post #1 in Paris France.
He retired from the United States Navy after 24 years of service as a builder with United States Navy Construction Battalion better known as the Seabee’s, making the rank of Command Master Chief serving in duty stations in Rhoda, Spain, Antarctica (South Pole), Australia, Northern Ireland and served three tours in Vietnam. He was later transferred to the Naval Support Unit with the Department of State serving in Moscow, China, Hong Kong, Korea and Germany.
His second career was with the Department of State in Washington DC continuing to serve his country as a construction engineer, supervising multimillion dollar projects on assignments in Libreville Gabon, Lagos Nigeria, Cairo Egypt, Czechoslovakia, Paris France, Warsaw Poland, Guangzhou China and East Timor.
His third career was as a contract employee with the Department of State serving different posts around the world.
He was preceded in death along with his parents by three siblings, John, Bill and Fran.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Ann Townsend Ledger; a daughter, Katherine Ann Meadows and her husband Lundie of Greenup; three siblings, Clarence, Jimmy and June; a sister-in-law, Linda Kendall and her husband Richard along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and his special friend Victor Huston.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Greenup First United Methodist Church in Greenup KY by Rev. Dr. Nancy Preston.
Burial will follow with full Military Honors at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery NE in Greenup County Kentucky.
Viewing will be from 10:30 AM till the time of the service on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the church.
