1930 – 2022
Darlene Faye Hieneman Crawford, 92, of Beavercreek, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Crossroads Hospice in Miamisburg, Ohio.
She was born in Greenup County, Kentucky on March 14, 1930, a daughter of the late Horace & Dorothy (Boggs) Hieneman, Sr.
She was a retired Candy Maker for Esther Price Candies in Dayton, Ohio. She wore her pink smock proudly for over 40 years. Darlene was also an avid gardener, a great cook, and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. She enjoyed going to country concerts with her girlfriends and Alan Jackson was her favorite artist (she saw him over 10 times!).
Along with her passion for gardening and music, she could always be found on Friday morning at the hair salon. She had a host of TV shows that she watched religiously, but there are fond memories of her and Fred laughing at the antics of Dorothy, Rose, Sophia, and Blanche together while their grandkids were visiting. Darlene loved her family and especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death along with her parents by her husband of 55 years, Fred, a sister, Mary Lou Hamilton, and four brothers, Jackie Hieneman, Bob Hieneman, Don Hieneman, and Horace Hieneman, Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Debbie Michalski, and her husband, Steve, of West Chester, Ohio, three grandchildren, Matthew Hamby (Lauren) also of West Chester, Ohio, Ryan Hamby (Brooke Williams) of Dallas, Texas, and Ally Miller (Nathan) of Columbus, Ohio. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Molly Faye and James Matthew (Matthew and Lauren), and Drew Scarlett (Ryan and Brooke), a sister, Juanita Quillen of Lloyd, two brothers, Joe Hieneman of Wurtland, Ed Hieneman and his wife Wanda of Greenup; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Hieneman of Greenup along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, January 9, 2023, at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky presided over by Dr. Thomas Melvin.
Burial will follow in the Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd, Kentucky.
Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky has been entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of sending flowers, please consider planting some in honor of Darlene as she enjoyed being outside tending to her garden, or donating to the Greenup County Green Fund or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
