Debbie Pennington Obituary

Debbie Pennington

1960 ~ 2026

Debra Sue “Debbie” Pennington (Brown), 65, of Greenup, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in her home on April 24, 2026, surrounded by her husband and children.

She was born on June 5, 1960, in Ironton, Ohio, and spent her life in Greenup, Kentucky, alongside her husband, Larel Pennington, building a home that meant everything to those who knew her.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Larel Pennington; three sons, Joshua (Megan), Aaron (Kristy), and Matthew (Ashley); five grandchildren, Isaac, Oliver, Gabriel, Canyon, and Mila, who knew her best as “Gran” and were the light of her life. She is also survived by her nephew, Nathan Brown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph William and Irene Townsend Brown; her brother, Harry Brown, and her nephew, Roger Brown.

Debbie dedicated her entire life to her family. She wasn’t just a mother to her three boys—she was a second mom to countless friends who passed through her home over the years. Her house was the place everyone went to, where no one left hungry, and everyone felt safe, loved, and welcome.

She was tough, incredibly smart, and one of the strongest women you could ever meet. Debbie was a fierce supporter of her sons, especially when it came to sports—she loved hard, stood her ground, and always had their backs no matter what. To her kids and grandkids, she wasn’t just a mom or grandma—she was their biggest fan.

Debbie loved 70’s rock music, especially Aerosmith. She was a fantastic cook, known best for her homemade fudge, and she made sure that anyone who walked through her door was fed, warm, and cared for.

More than anything, Debbie loved her family with everything she had. She showed incredible strength over the past ten years, always putting her family first and continuing to show up with love for her children and grandchildren. That kind of strength and sacrifice is something that will never be forgotten.

She was, without question, the best woman her family ever knew—and she will be missed more than words can say.

Private services will be announced at a later date.
