1948 – 2024

Donald Ray Rister 76, of Greenup KY went to be with the Lord, while surrounded by all his family, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland KY.

He was born in Greenup KY on September 22, 1948, a son of the late Melvin Wesley & Ruie Griffith Rister.

He was a retired machinist with 41 years of service, for C.S.X. Transportation while working at the Russell Round House.

He was a member of the I.A.M. Union, he was of the Baptist Faith, He was a loving father and grandfather and adored his grandchildren. He loved hunting and gardening while spending time in the outdoors.

He was preceded in death along with his parents by two brothers, Leonard Rister and Roger Rister.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandra Sue Callihan Rister; a son, Donald E. Rister and his wife LeighAnn of Minford; a daughter, Kristine Rister Willis of Greenup; five grandchildren, Stephen Rister, Shelby Rister Murnahan and her husband Chase, Sidney Rister, Jordan Willis, Kelsie Willis and Nick Ashley; three great grandchildren, Jackson Rister, Silas Rister and Leland Murnahan; a brother, Melvin W. Rister Jr. of Lexington; a sister, Norma Stevens and her husband Clifford of Georgetown KY along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, his neighbors and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup KY by his very close and longtime friend, Brother Eddie Holmes.

Burial will follow at a later date in the Plum Grove Cemetery in Greenup KY.

Visitation will be after 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2024, and 2 hours before the funeral on Monday at the funeral home.
