1930 – 2024

Earl Elmo “Moe” Melvin 93, a lifelong resident of Wurtland KY went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 19, 2024, at his home surrounded by his children.

He was born on Uhlen’s Branch in Wurtland KY on May 14, 1930, the oldest child of Rev. David “Dink” & Lottie Adams Melvin.

Elmo was a member of the Wurtland Church of the Nazarene, a founding member, and former Asst. Chief of the Wurtland Fire Department, a former member of the Wurtland City Council and a Kentucky Colonel.

He worked for 13 years at the Chessie System Railroad then was employed as a Rigger foreman for 34 years at AK Steel and became a master plumber, a master electrician and master carpenter.

He was preceded in death along with his parents by his wife, Verna Mae Rice Melvin in 2020; a brother Benny Melvin and two sisters, Phyllis Kilgore and Loretta May Ison.

He is survived by three daughters, Ginger Estep of Ormond Beach FL, Penny Kincaid and her husband Roger of Columbus OH and Pepper Stinson and her husband Tom of Maysville KY; a son, Rev. Steve Melvin and his wife Shawn of Mayfield KY; twelve grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; a sister, Rachel Newsome of South Shore KY; four brothers, Ed Melvin and his wife Linda of Worthington, Wayne Melvin and his wife Lila of Wurtland, Danny Melvin and his wife Molly of Parker CO and Dr. Thomas Melvin and his wife Jeanette of Raceland along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Greenup First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall by Rev. Steve Melvin, Dr. Scott Hill and Dr. Thomas Melvin.

Burial will follow in the Melvin Cemetery in Wurtland KY.

Visitation will be after 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, and 1 hour before the funeral on Thursday at the Greenup First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

His Grandsons will serve as his Pallbearers.

In Lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to the Wurtland Church of the Nazarene Children’s Ministry 619 Fulton Ave Wurtland KY 41144 or the Wurtland Fire Department 1218 Wurtland Ave. Wurtland KY 41144.
