1930 - 2025

Freeda James peacefully passed away in her sleep, April 16, 2025. She went home to be with her Lord and Savor and was celebrated by many at the gates of Heaven. She was born in Greenup, KY, on November 3, 1930. She lived 94 wonderful years spreading love to any and all around her. A comfort to many and a joy to all, especially her family. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church and a member of the Star of Hope Order of the Eastern Star. Freeda retired from Civil Service and Real Estate.  

Freeda was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Stella Porter; her husband, Raleigh James; children, Galliehue Campbell (Ruby) and Vickie Butler (Joe) and her siblings, Robert Porter, Glen Porter, and Gladys Chuba.

She is survived by her daughter, Bettina Schroeder; grandchildren, Angie Skeens, Chrissy Nation (Wendell), Eric Schroeder (Emily), Jamie Butler, Brandon Schroeder (Sara), and Kevin Schroeder, and great-grandchildren, Jaden, Trevor, Hunter, Tori, and Raylan. 

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2025, followed by a 7:00 p.m. funeral service at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY. 40216.

A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at McGuire Cemetery, 1005 McGuire Cemetery Rd., Greenup, KY. 41144.
