Hazel Workman Obituary

Hazel Workman

1939 – 2021

Hazel Nadine Workman 81 of Flatwoods KY went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at her daughter’s residence surrounded by her family.

She was born in Ashland KY on July 29, 1939 a daughter of the late John Henry & Hazel Meeks Gehringer.

She was a faithful member of the Wurtland Freewill Baptist Church for over 40 years, a loving mother, grandmother, wife and sister.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Franklin Workman; two sons, John Andy Workman and Joseph Franklin Workman Jr; a sister, Ruth Clarke and four brothers, John Gehringer, Bill Gehringer, Burnice Gehringer and Frank Gehringer.

Hazel was often referred to as “the life of the party”, was always quick to start some fun and a pot of coffee, and her cackle was contagious. She will be remembered for her laugh and her love. Love of all animals, especially the stray and pitiful, love of her siblings and their 5 am phone conversations, and love of (and talent for) strategically mapping out her garage sale itinerary. If you were blessed enough to be loved by Hazel, you know you are truly loved. If she were to give you any advice in this life, in times of trouble, she would gently point you toward the Lord and say, “In the end, LOVE is the only thing that matters”.

She is survived by a son, Kelly Workman of Wurtland; a daughter, Kristeen “Krissie” Warbel and her husband Dan of Russell; two bonus children, Tawnya Robinson and Dave Jones; four grandchildren, Kelly Allen Workman Jr, Halee Warbel, D.J. Warbel and Sam Warbel; a brother, Louis Gehringer of Ashland; four sisters, Pearl Parker of Rush, Mable Jones of Greenup, Louise Helms and Clarissa Roark both of Flatwoods; a daughter in law, Lisa Black of Wurtland along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 12:30 PM Monday, March 15, 2021 at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup KY by Brother Roy Roach.

Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery NE in Greenup County Kentucky.
