Herman Richard Madden

1931 – 2026

Herman Richard Madden, 94, of Lloyd, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Father's Day, June 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was welcomed into his eternal home and reunited with those who had gone before him.

Born to the late Jesse and Elizabeth Madden, Richard lived a life marked by faith, service, hard work, and devotion to his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose presence brought comfort and joy to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bessie Madden; his sons, Ralph Madden and Alan Madden; his daughter, Vickie Madden Blair; his granddaughter, Cassie Blair; and his grandson-in-law, Daniel Gullett.

Richard leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory, including his grandchildren, Sara Gullett, Jessica (Jeff) Lewis, James (Dessa) Madden, Jordan Madden, all of Lloyd, Kentucky, and Katie (Andy) Barrick of Ireland. He is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Connie Madden and Markie Madden; his son-in-law, Arthur Blair; and his nine treasured great-grandchildren, Eli, Jack, Gage, Landry, Connor, Evie, Belle, Ollie, and Paisley.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a faithful member of Antioch Christian Church. He dedicated many decades of his life to CSX Transportation, where he built a respected career before retiring. Richard believed in the value of hard work and took great pride in providing for his family throughout his years of service.

He found great joy in bluegrass music, old cars, and spending time with family and friends. Whether attending family gatherings, sharing stories, or tinkering with old cars in his spare time, Richard embraced life with a warm heart and a generous spirit.

Known affectionately as "Poppy," he created a legacy of love, strength, and dedication that will continue through the generations that follow him. His family will remember him for his wisdom, his unwavering support, and the countless memories he helped create.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he loved and in the many lives he touched.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Wright’s Funeral Home by Brother Kenny Martin

Burial will follow in the Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd KY.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM till the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers contributions are requested to be made to Greenup Meals on Wheels.
