Jeff Phelps
1956 – 2020
Charles Jeffery Phelps, 64, of Franklin Furnace, OH, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 23, 2020 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH.
He was born in Ironton, OH, on April 17, 1956, a son of the late Marvin & Lena Evans Phelps.
Jeff loved the Lord and was a devout Christian. He was a member of the Bloom Freewill Baptist Church in Scioto Furnace, OH. Jeff grew up on his family farm, “Wildcat”, in Argillite, KY. At a young age, he was very active with the County 4-H program.
He enjoyed many hobbies: playing piano, photography, the outdoors, etc., and he was always passionate about sports — especially football. He attended Wurtland High School, Greenup County High School, and both the University of Kentucky and Morehead State University.
While Jeff held many jobs over the years, such as selling print ads, construction, providing computer support, and delivering mail, it was later in life that he lived his true calling as a journalist and historian, writing for local newspapers and running his Facebook group. He created and moderated the Facebook group “Everything Greenup County”, a platform through which he acquired and furthered thousands of friendships by sharing his knowledge and passion for the history of his hometown.
He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by a brother and sister in-law, Jerry (Jackie) Phelps.
He is survived by his wife, Robin Renee Conrad Phelps; a son, Charles Dustin Phelps (Iman) of Dayton, OH; a daughter, Emily Jacqueline Phelps (Jeremy Taylor) of Ashland; two grandchildren, Charles Russell Phelps and Presley Taylor; a brother, Gary Phelps (Elizabeth) of Grayson; a sister, Jill DeCarolis (Joe) of Deerfield Beach, FL, and a host of extended family and friends.
Graveside funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 28, 2020, at the Phelps Cemetery in Argillite, KY by Brother Andy Ramey.
There is no public visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jesse Stuart Foundation - 4440 13th Street, Ashland, KY 41102.
Due to government regulations concerning COVID 19, masks and social distancing are required at all times.
Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup, KY has been entrusted with the arrangements.
