1969 – 2023

Jeffrey David Spencer 53 of Russell KY went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 26, 2023 at his residence.

He was born in Ashland KY a son of Phillip W. Spencer Jr. and Anne Biggs McCoy Harrison.

Jeff was a Driver for UPS, a Veteran of the United States Navy, an avid University of Kentucky and Cleveland Browns fan, A graduate of Greenup County High School Class of 1987, was baptized and was a member of the Greenup Christian Church and loved to play golf and cornhole.

While in the Navy Jeff served in the Gulf War and was aboard USS PUFFER 652 a Sturgeon Class Fast attack Submarine. He was a Machinist Mate 2nd Class. Jeff earned his Dolphins under way to Yokosuka Japan. Qualifying as a full-fledged Submariner. From there he went to Guam, Thailand and the Philippines. Jeff was working the Fair water controls while at sea as Hollywood filmed the Periscope scene for the move “The Hunt for Red October”.

 In 1991 he went to the North Pole on a highly Classified mission where he stood Top Side Watch to warn against Polar Bear attacks and floating ice that could damage the integrity of the Sub. Playing a key part in the success of the mission.

He is survived by his wife, Beth Brown Spencer; a daughter, Lyda Beth Spencer of Cincinnati OH; his father, Phillip W. Spencer and his wife Rebecca of Greenup; his mother, Anne Biggs McCoy Harrison and her husband Wayne of Charlotte NC; two sisters, Tracy Logan and her husband Rodney of Jacksonville FL and Lisa Stevens and her husband Mark of Greenup; his father and mother-in-law, Michael A. & Susan Miracle Brown; a nephew, Payne Logan; two nieces, Riley Logan and Eleanor Stevens along with a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, May 29, 2023 at the Greenup Christian Church in Greenup KY by Brother Bobby Hall.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am till the time of the service Monday at the church.
