Jerry Stambaugh
1940 - 2020
Jerry Arnold Stambaugh 79, of Wurtland went to be with the Lord on Derby Day, Saturday, May 02, 2020 at his home following an extended illness.
He was born in Ashland, KY on October 2, 1940 a son of the late Arnold & Zona Hurst Stambaugh.
He was preceded in death along with his parents by a brother, Carl Stambaugh.
Jerry was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Vietnam War, a member of the Wurtland First Church of the Nazarene, a retired Brakeman and Conductor on the Big Sandy Division for C.S.X. Railroad.
He was an avid horseman and was the owner and trainer of many thoroughbreds; he attended Ashland High School, and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon Sue Crum Stambaugh; a son, Gerald Arnold Stambaugh and his wife Brittany of Lloyd; two daughters, Michelle Hill and her husband Scott of Wurtland and Vanessa Adkins and her husband Keith of Campbellsville; a brother, Lawrence Stambaugh and his wife Dorothy of Ashland; a sister, Carolyn Nichols and her husband Gordon Jr. of Lexington; nine grandchildren, Ashley Young, Bradley Bates, Jordan Hill, Madison Hill, Sarah Adkins, Bryson Hill, Luke Adkins, Logan Stambaugh and Sophia Stambaugh; a great granddaughter, Sadie Lynn Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Due to restrictions placed on funerals by the government in regards to the COVID-19 virus, private services by Rev. Dr. Scott Hill are scheduled for the family.
Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, KY.
Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup KY has been entrusted with Jerry’s arrangements.
