Jim Colley
1956 ~ 2026
James Glenn Colley, 69, of Greenup, Kentucky, passed away on April 5, 2026, following a recent illness.
James was born on June 11, 1956, in Russell, Kentucky, to the late William H. Colley and Mary Elizabeth Boggs Colley. He was a 1974 graduate of Greenup County High School and proudly belonged to the first graduating class of the newly merged high school. James retired after many years of dedicated service as an employee of the City of Russell.
James is survived by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Colley, and his twelve siblings: Paulette Furst (John) of Summerville, South Carolina; Bill Colley of Argillite; Connie Barnes-Collazo of Redlands, California; Vicki White (Andy) of Tecumseh, Michigan; Robert Colley of Lexington; Alfred Colley (Sue) of Louisville; Cindy Thomas (Greg) of Ormond Beach, Florida; Stephen Colley of Lexington; Ed Colley (Michelle) of Greenup; Ruth Ann Go (Kevin) of Raleigh, North Carolina; Tom Colley (Ellen) of Lexington; and Ramona Hieneman (Jonathan) of Campbellsville. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Judy Underwood and Linda Lawson, both of Greenup, as well as his beloved pets, his dog and cat, Lucy and Sam.
James is further survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; his beloved wife, Rita Gayle Craft Colley; and his brother, Richard Colley.
James, affectionately known as Jim, professed his faith in Christ and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Greenup for more than fifty years. He especially loved lifting his voice in song, joyfully singing hymns during worship services with conviction and enthusiasm. A true jack of all trades, Jim was a well-known handyman who took pride in honest work and enjoyed nothing more than a hard day’s labor. Those who knew him were often sent on their way with one of his signature lighthearted jokes and a smile. Above all, Jim was a truly contented person who found happiness in his faith, his family, his friends, and the simple joys of everyday life. He loved gardening, spending time with the people he cared about, and appreciating life just as it was.
