Joe Carr
1936 – 2026
Joseph Quillen “Joe” Carr, 89, of South Shore KY, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, March 16, 2026, at the Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth OH.
He was born in Greenup County on April 25, 1936, a son of the late Charles H. & Cosbia Holbrook Carr.
Joe was a retired Carman for C&O and a self-employed Logger. He was the Pastor of the Lloyd Community Baptist Church for over 20 years and a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carman.
Simply known as “Joe,” he leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and a life well lived. Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, pastor, and friend whose steady faith and humble spirit touched all who knew him.
Joe truly enjoyed the simple pleasures of life— he especially loved being outdoors logging and hunting(preferably grouse), he loved playing occasional games of “rountown” and marbles with family. He was known for a well-kept yard, and he took pride in cleaning and caring for his cars.
Those who knew Joe remember him as a man of integrity, kindness, and deep faith. He lived a life that reflected the values he preached—serving others, loving well, and honoring the Lord in all he did. Many say that a legacy is what someone leaves for others, but Joe showed us that a legacy is what you leave in others! A lasting legacy of faith and devotion that will be remembered by all who knew him.
He was proceeded in death along with his parents by five brothers, Glennis Carr, Clayton Carr, Clifton Carr, Charles Carr JR and Claude Carr along with a sister Venus Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Lea Boggs Carr; two daughters, Angela Sloan and her husband Tony of Maloneton KY and Joanne Shonkwiler and her husband Ed of Lexington KY; four grandchildren, Lauren Ingles and her husband Dalton, Kassidee Shonkwiler, Kristin Shonkwiler and Kaleb Shonkwiler; a great-grandchild, Willow Ingles; a sister, Nancy Holler of Middletown OH along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Lloyd Community Baptist Church in Lloyd KY by brother Ed Shonkwiler.
Burial is to follow at the Quillen Cemetery in Lynn KY.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM till time of service on Thursday at the Church.
Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup, KY. has been entrusted with the arrangements.
