1933 – 2023

Joe Ray Melvin 89 of Greenup went to be with his Heavenly Father and his favorite buddy “Chub Dog” on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland KY.

He was born in Argillite KY on November 25, 1933 a son of the late Jonathan & Pearl Nichols Melvin.

He was a member of the Argillite Nazarene Church, a retired switchman for C.S.X. Railroad, a Kentucky Colonel and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He enjoyed working on cars, trucks and tractors while spending time with his friends in his garage.

He loved animals but especially loved his two dogs, Betty and Phoebe.

He was preceded in death along with his parents by his wife Rev. Delores Darnell Melvin; a sister, Darlene Bush and a brother Larry Melvin.

He is survived by a son, Timothy Melvin and his wife Kim of Greenup; a daughter, Jonda Sizemore and her husband Jay of Greenup; grandsons, Joseph Melvin and his wife Sasha of Flatwoods, Robby Thomas and his wife Autumn of Flatwoods; a granddaughter, Hannah Sizemore of Greenup; great grandchildren, Karlie Melvin, Blaine Melvin, Elliott Melvin, Nora Melvin, Bryan Thomas, Lindy Thomas, Jana Thomas and Barron Royster; a special friend, Letha Burton along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup KY by Brother Steve Fraley.

Burial will follow in the Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd KY.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM till the time of the funeral on Saturday at the funeral home.

Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup, KY. has been entrusted with the arrangements.
