Jay Donaway

1962 – 2023

Joshua “Jay” Samuel Donaway, 60, of Morgantown, WV, passed away at Ruby Memorial Hospital surrounded by his children on August 14th, 2023.

Jay was born September 7th, 1962, in Parkersburg, WV to Eugene M. Donaway and Hazel V. “Patsy” Daniels Donaway.

He is survived by his daughters Kortnie (Carlos) Bradley, Jasmine Donaway, son Joshua (Kelsey) Donaway, sister Angel Smith, his loving grandchildren, Vada Skye, Kohen Jett, Benji Josiah, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Jay was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone. It was rare to not share a smile or laugh in his presence. His family was his pride and joy, and he spent any chance he got doting on them. Jay loved sports, and was a die hard Dallas cowboys fan. He was an army veteran, and dedicated many of his young years to serving his country.

He spent his best years coaching his children’s sports teams, and his favorite past time was fishing with his wife, Chris, and hanging out with his dogs, who were truly his best friends. Jay was always there. He cared for his late wife in her last years, always showed up for his children, and was available with a helping hand whenever it was needed.

Jay is proceeded in death by his parents Eugene Donaway and Patsy Donaway, his brothers Buster Donaway, Malcolm Donaway, sister Stephanie Smith, and his loving wife Chris Donaway. We know a glorious reunion was had on August 14th when they all got to be together again.

A special thank you to the staff at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for their loving care and support during his final days. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards Smiths Funeral Home and Wrights Funeral Home for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.

Graveside funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, August 18, 2023, at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland KY by Brother Paul Heffon.  

Visitation will be from 10am-12pm on Friday at Wrights Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to help offset the cost of the funeral.
