Joyce “Moore” Parsons
1935 – 2024
Joyce Parsons, age 89, of Greenup, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home on December 20, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Joyce’s life was a testament to resilience, compassion, and an unwavering love for those she held dear.
Born to the late Lena Greene Traylor and Oliver Moore, Joyce’s life was defined by hard work and dedication. She began her career as a labor welder for CSX Railroad at Raceland carshop, a position she cherished until an injury led her to seek new opportunities. At the age of 50, Joyce returned to school, earning a bachelor’s degree in social work from Morehead State University. This academic achievement marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life as a social worker with Pathways, where her empathy, kindness, and commitment to helping others left a lasting impact.
Upon her retirement, Joyce focused her energy on her family, becoming the cornerstone that held them together. Her fiery red hair mirrored her fierce, unconditional love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Joyce was their constant source of support, wisdom, and comfort, always ready to offer her strength and nurturing care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lemual Conn Parsons, as well as her sons Waren Michael Parsons, Lemual Conn Parsons Jr. (Bo), and Barry Parsons, and her grandson Robert Chapman Jr.
Joyce is survived by her children: Glenna Pemberton, Rena Barnett, Susan McDonald, Ruth (Robert) Chapman and Larry Parsons, her legacy lives on through her grandchildren; Misty Chapman, Amanda Chapman, Shane Allen, Amy Lewis, Josh Warnock, David Griffith, and Jennifer Smith; her great-grandchildren, including Ashley Johnson, Norah Chapman, Sydney Chapman, Rebecca Chapman, Emma Sias Seth Warnock, Elijah Warnock, and Juniper Smith, will continue to carry her love and strength. Joyce was also blessed with a great-great-grandchild, Cameron Johnson.
A devoted wife and loving mother, Joyce’s impact on the lives of those who knew her is immeasurable. She had an extraordinary gift of making everyone feel valued, seen, and loved. While her presence will be deeply missed, her family finds solace in the thought that whenever a butterfly flutters by, it is Joyce visiting them, reminding them of her eternal love.
Graveside services and burial will be held at the Greene – Bishop Cemetery at 1:00 PM, Monday, December 23, 2024, by Brother Acy Gibson.
