Larry Braden
1940 ~ 2025
Larry Dale Braden, age 84 of Wurtland, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at his home with his family present following a long journey with Primary Progressive Aphasia.
Larry was born on August 22, 1940, in Load, Kentucky, son of the late Carl and Velma Johnson Braden.
He served in the United States Navy from June 13, 1960, until his Honorable Discharge in 1968 having been a Aviation Structural Mechanic (AME2) Petty Officer Second Class, receiving medals for Good Conduct as well as a National Defense Service Medal.
He married the former Louise Botts from Denniston, Kentucky, on June 26, 1961. He retired from E.I. DuPont de Nemours. He was an avid outdoorsman, from being a competition rifle shooter and lifelong hunter to fishing expeditions in Canada. He enjoyed woodworking and could build nearly anything.
Larry was a founding member of the GOTEM Tractor Club and began the scholarship program that still is ongoing. He was a Master Mason and member of Rush Lodge 715 and had been a Mason for over 50 years. He was always ready with a joke, a smile, and a helping hand, and had many, many friends.
He is survived along with his wife by four children; Shawn Braden and wife Kathy, Teresa Braden Salyers and husband Steve, Shayla Braden Hicks and husband Jack, and Andrea Braden Burns and husband Jason; ten grandchildren, Zachary Braden, Tiffany Kitchen, Shawna Geyer, Savannah Braden, Jordan Salyers, Emily Adkins, Britton Huffman, Bradley Huffman, Braden Burns, and Reagan Burns and six great-grandchildren, Aubree and Connor Braden, Archer and Avery Adkins, and Charlie and Ryan Lewis.
He was preceded in death along with his parents by a sister, Joyce Braden Ward.
The family would like to thank the nurses of Community Hospice who helped care so sincerely for Larry, namely Tiffani and Gracie. Also, the family appreciates the services and support of the Veterans Association.
In particular, the Braden family wishes to extend a very special and heartfelt appreciation for Josh Stephens, who was Larry’s caregiver but also cared for everyone involved in Larry’s family by being such a source of support and genuine compassion.
Funeral services will be at 7:00 PM on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup KY by Brother Jim Smedley.
Burial will be with full military honors at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery by members of the United States Navy and Kenova American Legion.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM till the time of service on Monday at the funeral home with Masonic services being held at 6:00 PM by the Rush Masonic Lodge.
If friends and family would so desire, contributions may be made to the GOTEM Scholarship fund in memory of Larry Braden, as this was very near to his heart. Contributions may be brought to Wright’s Funeral Home and will be given to GOTEM in Larry’s memory.
