Linna Mae Craft
1934 – 2022
Linna Mae Craft, 87, of Greenup, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.
She was born on Coal Branch Road in Greenup County, Kentucky, on May 4, 1934, a daughter of the late Charles Howard & Lula Angeline Scaggs Craft.
Shortly after graduating from Wurtland High School in 1952, at age 18, Miss Craft began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse. She continued to teach, mostly at Wurtland Elementary School, driving to Morehead State College in the evenings and on summer breaks to complete her degrees, so that she would not have to interrupt her teaching career. She eventually became a much beloved Principal at several schools in Greenup County and was given a parade through downtown Wurtand as she retired after 42 years in education.
Miss Craft was a member of the Wurtland Church of God, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member and officer of the Greenup County Retired Teachers Association; she also served on the board of FIVCO and was a member of the Greenup County Hall of Fame.
She was preceded in death, along with her parents, by four sisters, Eunice Werner, Helen Bowling, Lois Carr, and Patty Reed, and two brothers, Charles Edward Craft and David Craft.
She is survived by a brother, Steve Craft, and his wife Evon, of Greenup, along with a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She is also remembered fondly for hosting an annual Christmas party, complete with gifts for everyone, given for her extended family and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup, KY, by Brother Chester Keathley.
Burial will follow in the Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd, Kentucky.
Visitation will be after 6:00 pm Friday, April 1, 2022, and 2 hours before the funeral Saturday at the funeral home.
