1946 – 2023

Ruth Williams Johnson 77, a lifelong resident of the City of Greenup KY, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Kings Daughters Medical in Ashland KY.

She was born in Greenup KY on February 23, 1946, a daughter of Bill & Margaret Martin Williams.   

Ruth was a member of the St. John’s A.M.E. Church, an Election Officer for many years. She was also a former Head Start and Greenup Senior Citizens worker. Her passions were flowers, gardening and playing bingo.

You could always find her patrolling the streets of Greenup as a member of the local neighborhood watch.  

She was preceded in death along with her parents by her husband, Otis James "O.J." Johnson along with two brothers, James Nelson “Jimmy” Williams and Douglas Edward Williams.

She is survived by three sons, Jonathon Edward Williams of Greenup, Dwaine Mitchell “Boo” Williams of Greenup and Gregory Todd Williams (Rayetta Wise) of Ironton OH; a daughter, Amy Louise Williams of Greenup; five grandchildren, Trey (Britney) Williams and Kymbria (Justin) Williams Coleman, whom she help raise, Cody Wise, Macy Wise, Alexis Wise; nine great grandchildren, Eli Evans, Ava Evans, Jalen Evans, Kai Williams, Rhyze Coleman, Rhezyn Coleman and Baby Girl Coleman; a brother, Ronald Williams and his wife Mary Ellen of Huntington; two sisters, Virginia Pleasant and her husband Robert of Ironton and Ann Margaret Gentry of Middletown OH; a sister in law, Sandra Williams of Greenup along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup KY.

Burial will follow in the Sunset Cemetery in Greenup KY.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM till the time of the funeral service on Saturday.
