1951 – 2026

Susan Miracle Brown, 75, of Flatwoods, KY, formerly of Stanford, KY, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 16th surrounded by love.

Susan was born on April 20th, 1951, in Danville, KY, a daughter of the late Solomon “S.L.” Miracle & Mary Lou Stamper Miracle.

She was preceded in death along with her parents by her brothers, David Russell Miracle, Donald Miracle, and William Miracle (infant); and her son-in-law, Jeff Spencer.

Susan shared 51 years of marriage with her devoted husband, Michael A. Brown. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, friendship, and countless memories. She was a loving and devoted mother to her daughter, Beth Brown Spencer of Russell, KY, and the bond they shared was one of the great joys of Susan’s life.

Education was both Susan’s profession and one of her greatest passions. She dedicated her career to Lincoln County Schools in Stanford, KY, where she began as a seventh- and eighth-grade English teacher. She later served as a school counselor and ultimately as an Individual Intellectual Assessment School Counselor before her retirement. Susan believed deeply in the importance of education, a value she proudly instilled in her daughter, Beth.

After her retirement, Susan continued her commitment to students and education through several roles with Raceland Independent Schools, including starting and serving as Director of the 21st Century After School Program. She also played an instrumental role in helping to launch the archery program at Raceland Schools, further extending her impact on students and school life in her community.

Her desire to help children understand difficult emotions extended beyond the classroom. Susan was the author of three children’s books: What It Feels Like to Be a Bully, What It Feels Like to Be Different, and What It Feels Like to Lose a Pet. Through both her professional life and her writing, she sought to help children feel understood and to encourage compassion for others.

Susan also believed in service, fellowship, and the importance of community. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, served as president of Business and Professional Women, and was a current member and past president of the P.E.O. Sisterhood where she held the sisterhood together during the pandemic.

Her faith was an important part of her life. Susan was a former member of Stanford Baptist Church in Stanford, KY, and a current member of Raceland First Baptist Church in Raceland, KY, where she was a beloved member of the congregation.

Susan had a special way of making life beautiful. She loved holidays and took great joy in decorating her home for every holiday and season. Christmas held an especially dear place in her heart, and the family Christmas parties she created became cherished traditions and memories that her family and friends will carry with them always.

Susan also treasured her friendships. Some of her happiest times were spent visiting Amish Country with her best friends, affectionately known as the “Turtles” a name inspired by Susan’s love of turtle figurines and decorations. Those trips, friendships, and the laughter they shared brought her great joy.

Compassionate, kind, considerate, wise, trustworthy, funny, loyal, and brave are only a few of the words that describe Susan. She was someone people could turn to for guidance, depend upon as a friend, laugh with, and trust with their hearts. She loved deeply, gave generously of herself, and made a lasting difference in the lives of her family, her friends, her students, and her community.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Raceland First Baptist Church in Raceland KY by brother Charles Wayne Blevins.

Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday at the church.

Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup, KY has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Susan’s life was one of love, learning, faith, friendship, and service.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
