Ted Johnson
1934 – 2023
Teddy Gene “Ted” Johnson 89 of Greenup KY went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland KY.
He was born in Greenup KY on May 5, 1934, a son of the late Amos & Retta Lee Burkhart Johnson.
Ted was a retired Superintendent for A K Steel and a Veteran of the U.S. Army.
Ted always believed in being involved in his community. He was a founder of the Greenup JC’s., one of the original members of the Greenup Old Fashion Days Shootout Gang where they ran the Red Dog Saloon and assisted in the annual Lions Club car show. He was a member of the Greenup Masonic Lodge #89, the El Hasa Shrine and was a member of the Motor Corps. He formed a band called Ted Johnson and the Silver Strings and was the local DJ for many local dances.
He was preceded in death along with his parents by two sisters, Edith Withrow and Ruth Garvin.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Gail Jenkins Johnson; a son, Ronnie Dale Johnson of Greenup; a daughter, LaRae Brueggeman and her husband Tom of Walton KY; six, grandchildren; fourteen, great grandchildren; a special sister-in-law and niece, Karen (Gordie) Miller and Lauren (Justin) Miller; special friends, John and Sherrie Dowdy and Bill and Dolly Patrick; along with numerous members of his extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 12 Noon on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup KY by Brother Roger Lavender.
Burial will follow in the Plum Grove Cemetery in Greenup KY.
Visitation will be after 6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 and one hour before the funeral on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Military funeral rites will be held by the Marine Corps League.
In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital.
