Wenifred "Weni" Carpenter Obituary

Weni Carpenter

1958 ~ 2024

Wenifred Suzette “Weni” Carpenter, R.N., M.S.N., 65, of Flatwoods Kentucky was called home to be with the Lord on October 19, 2024, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland KY surrounded by family and friends.

She was born December 17,1958, in Ashland KY a daughter of the late John and Alpha Carpenter.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death two brothers, Robert Carpenter and Richard Carpenter.

She leaves behind two sisters, Beverly (Lance) Daugherty and Patricia Bowling; two sisters-in-laws, Linda Carpenter and Robin Carpenter; her caregiver, Trenton Daugherty; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; her dear friends Debbie Scott, Patty McKenzie, Kathy Smith along with countless others.

For Weni nursing was not just a job, it was a true calling and her passion. She took immense pride in the 40 years she worked at King’s Daughters Medical Center. She often referred to it as her second home. During her time at the hospital, she touched the lives many. Caring for patients, their families, and her coworkers. Weni was also a nursing professor at Shawnee State University. Where her love for nursing shined in both the classroom and clinical setting.

Weni believed everyone should receive medical care. She devoted her own time to help establish a free clinic for the Ashland area.

Weni enjoyed being a large part in the lives of her nieces and nephews, adopting in their friends as well. Everyone Weni met was a friend. Many will gladly tell you of their love for Weni and the impact she made on their lives through her kindness. She gave advice, she listened to problems, she offered comfort and if nothing else she would feed you. She always said cupcakes and cookies put a smile on your face and happy people have a better day.

Weni loved books. Her wonderful collection was often referred to as the “Library of Weni”. She also loved quilts. Saying she was a quilter is too generic a term. Weni was a fabric artist. She created many beautiful quilts that she gifted to those she loved. Weni found joy in collecting music boxes and Christmas ornaments.  Whether she found them nearby or during her many travels.

There is so much more that could be said of Weni, of her kindness, her caring nature, her humor. Weni will be greatly missed by her loved ones. Her family rest in the comfort of knowing that Weni was Heavan bound, to be reunited with those she loved. We will forever hold her in our hearts and our memories until the day we meet again. Her family asks that you remember her kindness and spread it to others, as she would have.
